In my quest to keep with my regiment and also stay warm, I’ve discovered this yummy hot alternative to cold smoothies.  It takes minutes to whip together, it tastes yummy and helps keep my migraines at bay.  So win-win.

(I also refer to this as Turmeric Milk in my upcoming posts)

Makes 2 servings

2 cups Silk Coconut Milk
2 tsp. turmeric powder (or fresh grated turmeric root)
1 healthy knob fresh ginger (or 2 tsp. ground ginger)
1 tbsp. coconut fat (or 2 tsp. coconut oil – I used the fat off of a can of full fat coconut milk cause that’s what I had on hand)
1 pinch black pepper
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. brown sugar (or honey, or agave to your taste – I’ll probably use less sugar as I wasn’t sure how this would taste. But less sugar is better)
2 star anise

Method:

1) Add all ingredients except star anise into a blender and blend till smooth.

2) Pour blended contents into small sauce pan and add star anise. simmer, stirring to make sure everything is blended. DO NOT BOIL.

3) Once simmered, about 5-7 minutes, pour into your favorite mug and enjoy.
