Just the way sunlight captures my eye
or the gentle warmth of my smile,
not fashion model perfection,
not Vogue magazine style –
Maybe it’s the way I strut my stuff,
rolling down the way
bad as I need to be,
not being Ms.America beautiful
or Mademoiselle chic –
Just being Me.
Never pretended to own
middle America blonde/blue
not the way my braids reach down and anchor
my soul like roots,
may not mean much to you
but it’s exceptional to Me.
Like first light blessing night kissed dew
on daisies, cool as powder
yes quite amazing!
And it’s all a resonance of Me.
Don’t really matter what you want me to be,
‘cause Adam had no choice in picking Eve
but if you use your third eye
you might love what you see –
living, growing, evolving to be –
